Margot Kahn grew up in Ohio and fell in love with the West on her first trip to Wyoming at age 15. Her writing has appeared in newspapers, literary journals and magazines and her award-winning first book, Horses That Buck, was published in 2008. She is the recipient of a Hertog Fellowship from Columbia University (2003), the Ohioana Library Association’s Walter Marvin Rumsey Award for a promising writer under 30 (2005), the High Plains “Best First Book” Award (2009) and a CityArtist Award from the City of Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs (2010). She holds an MFA in creative writing from Columbia University and has worked professionally as a journalist, speechwriter and arts administrator. She currently curates creative writing programs for teens at Richard Hugo House in Seattle, Washington.
